You'll find people on the internet, some English, many American, who will write you a poem to order. They'll probably ask you to fill out a questionnaire then they'll write you a shortish verse, possibly based around a formula (as most poems are requested for special occasions and let's face it, how many different occasions can there be?)

These people might make a living doing this, and if their poems are good and meet the need, that's fantastic. 

I decided I WASN'T going to do that. 

BUT... I was asked to write a poem for my sister's wedding two years ago, and I've been asked to do it again three times lately - two people leaving work and a seventieth birthday.  I've done them all for free... and I've really, really enjoyed them!
